Barack Obama and gun rights: When is “Support” Not Support?

Barak Obama continues his attempt to be all things to all people by claiming in an Associated Press interview that he supports the individual right to bear firearms. The interview was conducted in the immediate aftermath of the Northern Illinois shootings.

What is astounding to me is that the reporter, Nedra Pickler, presents that pro-gun position as the premise of the story (Headline: “Obama Supports Individual Gun Rights”), yet the entire story talks about Obama’s support for gun control measures.

Time to close the “Public Safety Loophole”

In April 2007 we saw the worst school shooting in American history. Students were lined up against the wall and shot to death like cattle at Virginia Tech. These scholars stood meekly and could do nothing to fight back, as school policy had disarmed them and for obeying this idiotic rule they died.

Ten months later, it seems bureaucrats and policy makers around the country have learned nothing from that tragedy or others like it. In recent months we have seen mass shootings at malls, churches, stores and schools, all over the United States. On Valentine’s Day, we saw the fourth school shooting in a week take place at Northern Illinois University, where a deranged man using a shotgun and two handguns shot over 15 people and killed seven.

All of these incidents have one thing in common. They took place in mandated “Gun Free Zones” where the victims were disarmed by law.

The story of concealed handgun license-holder Jeanne Assam’s brave actions to stop a murderous rampage killer in Colorado Springs, Colorado’s New Life Church won’t soon be forgotten. From CNSNews.com:

“She probably saved over 100 lives,” the Brady Boyd, the pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, said on Monday. The female guard, a church member dressed in plain clothes, killed the gunman after he opened fire at the mega-church. Boyd said she “rushed toward the attacker and took him down in the hallway” as he entered the building.

But most Americans are totally unaware of what happened with the two other concealed handgun license-holders who confronted the killer that day.

According to the ever-changing, reader-edited resource that is Wikipedia.com, Current TV is an Emmy award-winning independent media company led by former U.S. Vice President [and anti-gun extremist] Al Gore, and [equally anti-gun] businessman Joel Hyatt. The U.S. cable television network went on the air in August of 2005, and a second network, operated in the United Kingdom and Ireland started its operation in March, 2007 for Sky and Virgin Media subscribers.

Recently, Buckeye Firearms Association was contacted by Evan B. Stone, Executive Director for Current TV:

I am a producer for Current TV and I produced a short documentary on “The Machine Gun Shootout” in Kentucky.

Yes we are owned by former Vice President Al Gore but the piece is straight down the middle.

I was wondering if you can review it in your web site or review it for any other media that you cover. It is a very well produced piece and I think it is pretty fair but you make the call.

At some point in your day, you, like me, probably wonder “Have I done all I can do to be a pain in the hind end of those who oppose my gun rights?” The answer, of course, is “no.” Fortunately, it is easy to take some immediate and long term actions to irritate those opposed to your rights. Most steps are as simple as “vendor selection” decisions you make daily.

An interesting array of folks have spent considerable time and money arguing that the Second Amendment does not mean what it plainly says, and chances are you indirectly support these groups trying to strip you of your rights. Your support needs to stop – immediately. Here are simple steps you can take to make sure that these groups learn that nonsense has a price.

Something’s being forgotten… or sidestepped.

Many cases of quandary are in the news over guns on campus. I have written on the subject since the Virginia Tech Shooting, and I critique the Review Panel’s conclusions in a monograph available to seminar hosts.

Outside of that dissertation, let me address some of these questions and quandaries in the debates over what to do on the subject of concealed carry on campus.

To begin with, let me state the obvious which the debaters do not want to accept.

State of Ohio: Ohio Congressmen & women sign on in support of Second Amendment

The State of Ohio has officially joined a Writ of Certiorari in support of the pro-Second Amendment position in the District of Columbia v. Heller gun case.

Thanks to State Attorney General Marc Dann, a Democrat who has earned multiple endorsements from Buckeye Firearms Association, the State of Ohio has joined the states of Texas, Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming as Amici Curiae in support of the Second Amendment position.

Additionally, a separate pro-Second Amendment Congressional brief has been filed by Vice President Cheney, 55 Senators, and 250 Members of Congress, and is being attributed as the most congressional signers of any brief in history.

Comic Books With A Message

Growing up I spent a lot of time buried in comic books following the adventures of the X-Men and many other super heroes. The month long wait between issues was often unbearable. I drifted away from comic books as I got older, but about two years ago I discovered a pro-gun comic book that is geared towards children and adults.

The comic book is the “Gran’pa Jack” by the Jews for The Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO). The JPFO is an educational pro-gun organization that has produced the mind blowing documentaries, “The Gang” and “Innocents Betrayed.” A few years ago, they produced an eight part comic book series called “Gran’pa Jack.”

SAF, CCRKBA ask candidates to sign 2008 Presidential Gun Rights Pledge

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today are transmitting to each of the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates the “2008 Presidential Gun Rights Pledge.”

In a letter to the candidates, SAF founder Alan M. Gottlieb and CCRKBA Executive Director Mark A. Taff note, “It is not enough for a candidate for this nation’s highest political office to merely mouth ‘support’ for the Second Amendment. Whoever occupies the presidency must be someone who holds the Second Amendment to be as important to individual liberty as all the other tenets of our Bill of Rights.”
