They’ve found a body in the woods. Again. Another missing girl, woman, sister, mother, friend strangled, stabbed, shot, raped, mutilated, dismembered and tossed in the brush, in a ditch, beside railroad tracks, in a dumpster, in the ocean like so much garbage. The details don’t really matter. They were all guilty of nothing more than perhaps smiling at the wrong man, speaking to the wrong stranger, being at the wrong place at the wrong time, not being wary enough while going about their daily lives, not realizing that they were prey, that someone was watching them, following them and thinking violent thoughts about them.

In the past few weeks, articles written by myself and Buckeye Firearms Association Legislative Chair Ken Hanson have attempted to sound the warning on storm clouds which were gathering over this fall’s special election for Ohio Attorney General, due to the names being floated by both parties – former Senator Mike DeWine and current Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher in particular.

This week, it appears the clouds may have a chance of lifting, or at least shifting to a different part of the political atmosphere.

What’s wrong with fighting back over injustice?

Why is our country divided? Apart from political divides there is also a division in our thought process. We live in a time where the conventional way of thinking is to avoid conflict at all cost. If we are attacked by another country, the popular thing to do is to ask, what did WE do to provoke the attack?

We train our employee’s to surrender if they are being robbed. The penalty for taking action? Termination of employment.

This is an actual case, where a convenience store clerk witnessed a fellow employee being assaulted during a robbery. The witness to the assault intervened, saving his fellow employee from the assault.

A heroic act? Yes.

His reward? Termination of employment — he violated the rules of his training. He was trained to cower in the stock room while his fellow employee was beaten and the store was being robbed. Never under any circumstances should one put themselves in harm’s way, not even to save the life of your fellow man.

Here lies the problem; half of us have no tolerance for such foolishness. Half of us will serve our country and our fellow man no matter the personal cost. That half is the backbone of this county and I contend that it is the other half that is what is wrong with this country and yes, there is plenty wrong.

The meek shall inherit the earth, but the cowards will lose this country. Any man that could stand by and watch as a woman is being beaten is no man at all.

Governor Strickland signs SB184, Ohio’s Castle Doctrine Law

Buckeye Firearms Association Chairman Jim Irvine, Legislative Chair Ken Hanson and several other Leaders were on hand Tuesday, June 10, for the signing of SB184, Ohio’s Castle Doctrine Law, by Democrat Governor Ted Strickland.

Strickland called the bill “common-sense legislation”, and stressed that it will also clear up ambiguous sections of Ohio’s concealed-carry law.

“What we’ve clarified in this bill I think will go a long way toward providing both law enforcement as well as law-abiding citizens some confidence that what they’re doing is, in fact, consistent with the law,” he said.

More proof of Americans support for the individual right to keep and bear arms for self-defense

Once again confirming what we already know, a recent Harris poll (taken May 5,-May 12, 2008) found that, by a margin of more than two-to-one, U.S. adults believe that the Second Amendment to the Constitution guarantees an individual’s Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

For regular readers of the Grassroots Alert, the findings come as no surprise. In fact, the Harris poll results are similar to a March, 2008 Gallup poll and a December, 2007 CNN/Opinion Research Corporation telephone poll, which both found that Americans overwhelmingly support firearm rights and gun ownership, and believe that the Second Amendment affirms an individual Right to Bear Arms.

Project “Correct Kimber” letters begin to pour in

Last week, Buckeye Firearms Association Legislation Chair Ken Hanson sounded the alarm on gun manufacturers who continue to aid gun banners, and announced project “Correct Kimber”:

We, the consumers, must intervene to help save gun manufacturers from their self-destructive habits. Like any other intervention, tough love is needed. “We love you, we love your products and want to support you, but we can no longer stand by and watch you destroy yourself.”

The article has also been published by USConcealedCarry.org, and featured in a Jews For the Preservation of Firearms email newsletter as well as on numerous pro-Second Amendment blogs across the nation.

In his article, Hanson is inviting gun owners to contact Kimber, and some have begun forwarded letters they are sending to the corporation.
