What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

The landmark Supreme Court ruling in D.C. v. Heller delivered a knockout blow to “collective” rights theorists in the anti-gun community. It put into jeopardy blanket handgun bans in Chicago, San Francisco, and other municipalities, and is without a doubt a victory for gun owners.
And as if on cue, anti-gun editorialists and the mainstream media are rushing to declare the electoral combat over guns to be over.

The book “Four Hundred Years of Gun Control…Why Isn’t It Working?” is the first publication from a new Libertarian and pro-gun publishing company called Contrast Media Press. The publishing company is owned and operated by journalist and long time supporter of the Buckeye Firearms Association, John Longenecker.
“Four Hundred Years of Gun Control…Why Isn’t It Working?” was written by Howard Nemerov, a healthcare researcher who is also a long-time friend of Buckeye Firearms Association. Nemerov used to favor total civilian disarmament, and set out to prove that gun control would make society safer. However, the results of his research had the complete opposite effect.

It may surprise many people to learn that Chicago’s nickname of “Windy City” doesn’t come from the winds that blow off Lake Michigan during the harsh winters, but rather from the windy debates that take place among the city’s political players. After the United States Supreme Court ruled that Washington D.C.’s outright gun ban was unconstitutional, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley did his best to remind people the true reason Chicago is known as the Windy City.
Daley’s wind and whining over the Court’s affirmation of the right to bear arms was a perfect example of his willingness to huff and bluff when he doesn’t get his way. His red-faced diatribe against the Supreme Court cast off any doubt that Daley cares more about his personal fiefdom than the unalienable rights of his bosses – the people.

Pro-gun author and syndicated columnist John Longenecker has started a new publishing company called Contrast Media Press. John Longenecker is an amazing author whose powerful voice is helping us restore our Second Amendment rights. He has also been a strong supporter of grassroots organizations such as the Buckeye Firearms Association. In fact, his articles are often posted on our web site. By starting his own publishing company, Longenecker hopes to wake America up to the threats that are attempting to destroy our freedom, privacy, and our Second Amendment rights.
Buckeye Firearms Association is pleased to report that an Erie County concealed handgun license (CHL) -holder recently had all pending felony charges against him dismissed by the Prosecutor. In order to protect this innocent man’s identity, he will not be identified by name, and identifiable items will be deleted from this story. We will simply refer to this person as Publius.
Publius is an Ohio CHL living in or near Erie County. Sometime last year, Publius was the victim of a “man with a gun” phone call to the police. Publius was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of his wife’s store when a passerby noticed the handgun in the car. At no point did the passerby observe or report any suspicious activity, and the nature of the call to the police was simply “man with a gun.” No allegations of panic, criminal behavior or other nefarious acts.
The police responded and saw Publius’ vehicle outside the store. Publius then, having picked up his wife from work, pulled out and headed home. The police pulled in behind Publius and ran his license plate, which came back to a valid CHL matching Publius’ physical description. All of this is undisputed.
The police then conducted a full felony stop on Publius’ vehicle, after they knew he was a valid CHL.

Just over two weeks ago, Buckeye Firearms Assocation was contacted by Ohio concealed handgun license (CHL)-holder Bryan Ledford with an ominous message:
Another law-abiding Ohioan who was exercising his legal and Constitutional right to openly carry a handgun had been apprehended by police officers with guns drawn.
Mr. Ledford had already published his account on an Internet discussion forum at OpenCarry.org, and Ohioans For Concealed Carry, of which he is a member, set about to obtain an apology on his behalf.
Mr. Ledford’s detainment by the Willowick, OH police department was far from a first. Indeed, just a few short months ago the Columbus Dispatch published an article detailing plight of Philip Turner, who suffered a similar experience. Similar incidents have been document by this website and others.
What should have brought Mr. Ledford’s experience to the attention of every police chief (and news director) in Ohio was the fact that he had made a tape of the entire incident, and had caught these ignorant, abusive police officers red-handed.
With the upcoming holiday, let's look at what it might mean to some people…a day off with pay, just a day off, family, friends, cookouts, reunions or just a day to lounge…

On Thursday June 26th the Earth trembled. No it was not an earthquake but the collective thud of thousands of anti gun activists, fainting dead away after realizing their life’s work had just been flushed into the Potomac River. On that day the United States Supreme Court made history, they finally handed down a ruling saying the Second Amendment does indeed recognize an individual right to keep and bear arms. In doing so, they dealt a deathblow, to the thirty-two year old handgun ban of Washington D.C.
This terrible law had cost thousands of people their lives in our Nation’s Capitol over those three decades. The law virtually outlawed self-defense and made Washington D.C. a safe haven for criminals to ply their trades. The miscreants took full advantage of the concept that it is easier to assault an unarmed defenseless victim, than an armed one. Thus the suburbs of D.C. in Virginia and Maryland were much safer for their citizens.
What is stunning is the way the City continued to defend this failed law right to the end.
