Ohio Congressman Bob Latta joins Sportsmen for McCain Steering Committee; Obama scores another faux gunnie

U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign recently announced the National Steering Committee of the Sportsmen for McCain coalition. Included on that list are two prominent Ohioans – Michael Budzik, the former chief of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, and Congressman Bob Latta (R-5), a current Buckeye Firearms Association endorsee for Congress and multiple past-endorsee .

According to the press release, the two Ohioans are among those in the angling, hunting and shooting communities who are working across the country to emphasize John McCain’s dedication to protecting American’s right to gun ownership plus his commitment to preserving and promoting our hunting, angling and shooting traditions.

John McCain said, “I am proud to have the support of these national and state leaders within the sportsmen’s community and know that their support is integral to my bid to become your next president. It would be an honor to serve as your president and carry on the guiding principles of Theodore Roosevelt, America’s foremost conservation president.”

DNC Denver Acceptance Speech Special: Obama’s Five Mile Gun Store Exclusion

In 1999 Obama suggested a law that would prevent all gun stores within a five mile radius of schools and parks (See Obama’s Draconian Gun Control). In the following map, the white area is the calculated exclusion zone along the I-25 corridor around Denver and farther north and south along the highway to the borders of Colorado. The exclusion zone extends from north of Fort Collins to south of Colorado Springs varying from about 5 miles to probably 60 miles wide.

SW Gun Skills Challenge is a HUGE success!

GunSkillsChallenge The sounds of good, safe, family-friendly fun echoed just outside of Oxford, Ohio last weekend as Buckeye Firearms hosted the first regional ‘Gun Skills Challenge’. Just over forty shooters turned out to show support for Buckeye Firearms, meet and network with other area shooters, and generally enjoy a full day of shooting drills and scenarios.

Guns and 2008, Part II: The 2008 Election, America’s Right Brain and wei ji

What are we really electing in 2008?

I write for the non-gun owners in America. Often, I say is that what it is about guns isn’t even about guns. It is the thesis upon which I base my book, Safe Streets. It is about how we manage our Burdens, beginning with the very first one, Personal Safety, as opposed to assuming that someone else will do it for us (which cannot be done). This presents America with another example germane to the 2008 election for all offices.

In Part I of Guns And 2008, I spoke of how the Candidates have an opportunity to unify Americans by recognizing how we respect one another on various levels when we carry these burdens – from home ownership to parenting to business ownership – and how fighting Crime by recognizing Citizen Authority can be that common ground on an even broader scale. The key, of course, is to understand how 80 Million gun owners and many more non-gun owners understand the concept, and not to try to get constituents to appreciate how officials understand it. Which brings us to part II, wei ji.

According to Curt Anderson of the Associated Press, a man was arrested after threatening to assassinate the President. In his car police found a loaded 9mm pistol and dozens of rounds of ammunition.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

A man was arrested after threatening to assassinate the President. In his car police found a loaded 9mm pistol and less than one box of ammunition.

No Safe Places

Recently, there were two Christian musicians who were leaving a recording studio and were murdered for two dollars and their car. Initially, I paid little attention to the news reports nor did I listen to the names of the two victims. Three days later, I received an e-mail from a woman friend who had received her CHL by taking my course along with her son and daughter. The e-mail read, “Hi Don, my son, Steve, was murdered Thursday. His funeral is at….”

I sat there stunned. Steve had been licensed through my instruction. I had been to a couple of activities that he and his mother attended – in both cases they were armed. I knew Steve’s mother believed as I do that you never go anywhere unarmed if it is legal to carry in those places. I did not know Steve as well as I did his mother, but I found him to be very likable and smart. In fact, I later discovered that he was probably a genius. Of course after getting that terrible news, I couldn’t help wonder if he was armed that night.

Gun ban lobby attorneys argue to keep Texas students defenseless

The Fort Worth (TX) Star-Telegram is reporting that attorneys for the gun ban lobby have the tiny school district of Harrold in their sights.

The Wichita Falls-area Texas school district recently made international news by announcing teachers with a state concealed carry permit and permission from the district would be allowed to carry handguns on campus.

But according to the story, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence are attempting to stretch a rule in the educational code to fit the new policy in Harrold, TX, thereby claiming school officials there may be violating state law.

“F-Troop”: Obama picks fellow gun ban extremist as running mate

Now that Barack Obama has announced Delaware Senator Joe Biden as his running mate, it can be said with assurance that there could be no greater anti-Second Amendment ticket put together for Democrats if Sarah Brady hand-picked them herself.

Former Joyce Foundation board member Barack Obama’s anti-gun record has already been well documented on this website. His own NRA F-rated record is matched in his running mate by a much longer NRA F-rated one.

Buckeye Firearms Association named 2007 “NRA-ILA Volunteer Organization of the Year”

Buckeye Firearms Association is proud to announce that we have been named the 2007 “NRA-ILA Volunteer Organization of the Year” by the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action.

The announcement was made in the August 2008 issue of The EVC Update, the Official Publication for the NRA-ILA’s national army of Election Volunteer Coordinators.

In the newsletter, NRA-ILA EVC’s were informed that Buckeye Firearms Association was nominated for the award by the NRA-ILA’s Ohio State Liaison John Hohenwarter, who cited BFA’s “tireless efforts and growing impact”…

The article credits this political action committee for being “instrumental in the passage of Ohio Senate Bill 184, which improves Ohio’s concealed carry laws and incorporates the ‘Castle Doctrine.'”
