‘ACORN Uses Public Funds to Steal Elections, Now Your Gun Rights,’ Says SAF

BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct 28, 2008 — ACORN, the publicly-funded national organization linked to voter fraud in several states is now actively interfering with the exercise of firearm civil rights in New Jersey, and the Second Amendment Foundation is calling for an immediate federal investigation.

“ACORN has, since 1998, received an estimated $31 million in government funding,” said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb. “Now they have intervened in a New Jersey gun rights case in defense of an illegal Jersey City one-gun-a-month ordinance that violates the state preemption statute.

And for those tempted to assume he has somehow changed his position since then, remember this:

Meanwhile, the NRA is reporting that members in key presidential battleground states have informed the nation’s oldest civil rights group they have received deliberately misleading phone calls from someone professing to represent the NRA, asking voters to support Barack Obama.

An NRA email alert says “this is an absolute and intentional lie.”

With the 2008 presidential election upon us, the National Rifle Association is making their case against Barack Obama. They unflinchingly describe him as “the most anti-gun presidential candidate in American history” and have dedicated large sums of money to exposing his anti-gun agenda.

An in-depth look at his record justifies their position. Not only is Obama the economic socialist Rush Limbaugh has said he is, he is also a gun-banning associate of 1960s radicals who cannot wait to take away one of America’s greatest freedoms – the right to keep and bear arms.

As I have mentioned on occasion in my columns, I dearly love to go hunting. I have rarely been happier than the 30 years of spending that week following Thanksgiving living in a tent and sleeping on the ground with my dad in our Gallia County deer camp.

We arrived home after the last day of the season and much to my mother’s chagrin, all grubby and smelly, wearing the dirtiest clothes imaginable, but smiling like a Cheshire cat. While I have missed it terribly since Pop’s passing eight years ago, I firmly believe that those days are in great danger of vanishing forever – not only for me, but for all of you as well.

Sen. Barack Obama said recently he is “a strong supporter of the Second Amendment” and will not try take Americans’ guns away if elected.

“I believe it’s an individual right,” he said in an interview following a speech at [University of Nevada, Reno]. “Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear from an Obama Administration.”

But, Obama said, he is for “some common sense gun safety laws.” He said that means keeping weapons out of the hands of criminals, the mentally ill and children.

ALERT: ODOT notifies Buckeye Firearms Assoc. rest stop “NO GUNS” signs to come down

Buckeye Firearms Association has just received word from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) that the NO GUNS signs at state rest stops have been ordered removed. In the telephone call to Buckeye Firearms Association Leader and NRA Election Volunteer Coordinator Rick Jones, ODOT stated that their legal department has confirmed with multiple state departments that the signs are to be removed.

This action is in response to passage and implementation of Senate Bill 184, which included several major fixes to Ohio’s concealed handgun licensure law, including a change designed to allow patrons of rest stops to use the facilities without having to disarm.

The law took effect September 3, but concealed handgun licensees (CHL’s) continued to report seeing the problematic signs at highway rest stops.

Buckeye Firearms Assoc. ramps up response to Ohio Democrats’ anti-gun attack with hard-hitting mailer

Last week, Buckeye Firearms Association exposed Chairman Chris Redfern and the Ohio Democratic Party financing of two deceptive anti-gun mailers attacking State Representative Ross McGregor’s vote for Ohio’s Castle Doctrine bill, SB184.

We pointed out that 75 percent of the Ohio General Assembly voted in favor of this law, which ensures Ohioans’ right to defend themselves and their children from violent criminals – criminals who don’t care about “No Guns” signs. And we pointed out that a majority of Ohio Democratic Party’s own caucus members in the House, including Chairman Redfern himself, voted for this popular legislation, and that a supportive Democrat governor, Ted Strickland, enthusiastically signed it into law.

On Sunday, we took our message to the voters in McGregor’s House District 72, in the form of an advertisement in Clark County’s Springfield News-Sun.

This week, thousands of voters in House District 72 are receiving two gun-related mailers – including one from Buckeye Firearms Association that sets the record straight.

Everyone is focused on John McCain and Barack Obama for President of the United States. But there is another vote that is just as important – your vote for the two Ohio Supreme Court Justice positions.

Supreme Court Justices Evelyn Stratton and Maureen O’Connor are up for election, and need your help. Most people do not know anything about these candidates. In fact, the vast majority of people do not even know who they are. Judges are always tough votes to cast, because people do not know the candidates like other offices, and because on the ballot voters don’t even have a party affiliation to go by.

You need to make sure your friends and family know about this race, and the candidates that need support, because no matter what laws are passed in the legislature, they mean nothing without courts that uphold the law.
