Of late – as if not every single week these days – too many law enforcement Chiefs Of Police and Sheriffs are opposing concealed carry and second amendment rights on their own initiative. As with Orange County, California, more and more Sheriffs are demanding of their Concealed Carry Citizens that they show cause for their CCW renewals. This is, of course, vexing and actionable, and citizens so affected need to file official complaints and demand compiance with the law. Sheriffs who introduce requirements not stated in the law must stand down and remember who they work for.

1- Backdoor Ammo Bans

The lamestream media told you:

“I respect the Second Amendment,” according to Barack “Hope” Obama, Joe “Gun-Friend” Biden, and all politicians running for office from both parties.

The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:

The anti-rights candidates have so far refused to reject and repudiate proposals made last year by anti-rights supporters for draconian gun bills that would basically outlaw guns and ammunition over a period of several years. Widely defeated when government was under control of the do-little Republican party, the viciously anti-gun-rights Democrat party cannot be relied upon to maintain that course, on a model bill introduced in 18 states that would have required:

All ammunition to be encoded by the manufacturer with a data base tracking all ammunition sales; no one could sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 under the failed proposal unless the ammunition was coded; any privately held non-coded ammunition would have to be destroyed by July 1, 2011 (including handloaded ammo); and a tax of at least five cents on every round, considered by some to be way too low.

This is the kind of thinking out there in the anti-rights community — Obama’s constituency — who managed to get this legislation introduced in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

Handguns are for deer

I recently enjoyed an opportunity to film several segments for the ODNR Division of Wildlife “Wild Ohio” television show. The show appears on PBS stations across Ohio. The segments were filmed at the Spring Valley Wildlife Area Range in southern Greene County. Division of Wildlife District 5 Manager Todd Haines was the host for the segments. The topic was handgun hunting for deer in Ohio.

I was invited because Haines knew that I am an enthusiastic promoter of handgun hunting for deer. I switched to using a handgun during the deer gun week several years ago. I’ve been fortunate to take a couple of bucks, including one 10-point, and several doe with the handgun.

Ohio’s Young Hunters Enjoy Special Two-Day Deer Hunt

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Young hunters across Ohio again enjoyed success during the sixth annual Youth Deer-Gun Season, held Saturday and Sunday, November 22-23.

Hunters age 17 and under killed 9,852 deer during the special two-day season, aimed at providing a high-quality hunting experience for younger Ohioans. Last year’s youth hunt saw a deer harvest of 10,515.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife estimated 40,000 young hunters took to the state’s fields and forests during the two-day season. Counties reporting the greatest number of deer killed were Tuscarawas-454, Holmes-422, Harrison-353, Licking-346, Guernsey-339, Knox-303, Washington-296, Muskingum-273, Jefferson-213, and Athens-209.

The youth deer-gun season was open in all 88 counties. Young hunters could take one deer of either sex, in accordance with existing bag and deer-zone limits. All participants were required to wear hunter orange, possess a valid Ohio hunting license and special deer permit, and be accompanied by a non-hunting adult.

HB450 (Armed Services 18-21 gun rights restoration) scheduled for second hearing & possible vote in Senate committee

The Senate Judiciary on Criminal Justice Committee, chaired by Sen. Tim Grendell (R-18), will hear proponent, opponent and interested party testimony on Rep. Bruce Goodwin’s HB450, legislation that would restore gun rights to members of the armed services or the Ohio National Guard who are between the ages of 18 and 21, on Wednesday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m. in the Senate Building’s Finance Hearing Room.

The Chairman has indicated that the bill may receive a vote out of committee!

Why the NRA may be America’s only hope

Five years ago, I was not a gun rights supporter. I was not an NRA member. I didn’t even own a gun.

In fact, I bought into the common notion, nurtured by nanny state zealots and perpetuated by the media and Hollywood, that guns are bad. And except for the police and military, only bad people have guns.

Boy was I wrong.

Want to know what changed my mind? I went to see Michael Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine.” I thought it was funny. But I also thought it was dishonest.
