Barack Obama: The Outdoor Wire’s “Gun Salesman of the Year”
By Jim Shepherd
In recognition of the unprecedented demand for firearms by nervous consumers, The Outdoor Wire has named President-elect Barack Obama its “Gun Salesman of the Year”. For me, it was a simple fact of recognizing that without President-elect Obama’s frightening consumers into action, the firearms industry might be suffering the same sort of business slumps that have befallen the automotive and housing industries.
Headline: Gun sales soaring
The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that, with former Joyce Foundation board member Barack Obama less than a week away from becoming the nation’s 44th president, and Democrats gaining control in Congress, Ohio gun stores are seeing a steep spike in sales.
Brady Gun-Ban Strategy Outlined
By Alan Korwin
(Prior report with Brady/ Democrat gun-ban lists:
http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/node/6376)
The powerful gun-ban lobby has developed its own language to color and disguise its true agenda — the disarming of law-abiding Americans in every way possible, and the end of effective self defense.
Their latest set of plans — used as a fund raiser (outlined below) — is filled with nice sounding terms that put a deceptive spin on their goals. Respect for the Bill of Rights is nowhere to be found, only clever end runs and literal destruction of rights Americans have always had.
Starkly missing from these plans is any direct attack on criminals — the whole game plan is aimed at firearms the public holds. It is a product of abject gun fear — hoplophobia — that afflicts the people behind the plan. They deny they’re hoplophobic, but just look at their plans, directed solely at restricting and eliminating guns — instead of the crime caused by criminals they nominally complain about. I noticed that all mentions of accident prevention, a former holy grail for the group, are gone.
America’s free thinkers: Gun ban extremists or gun rights advocates?
By Gerard Valentino
It’s almost understandable why members of the media end up as apologists for the immoral agenda to ban guns. They see the after-effects of violence perpetrated with guns more than just about any other demographic group in America. Still, they are supposed to act as professionals and use sound logic in determining if guns are the problem, or if gun violence is simply a symptom of other societal break-downs.
Gun advocates point out that when the government began to legislate away the right to self-defense, the crime rate began to sky-rocket. Criminals, being good at their craft, knew that once the populace is disarmed the pickings got much easier. Claiming that banning guns only leaves unarmed victims, however, is a stale refrain – but that doesn’t make it less truthful.
Instead, the simplest and oldest arguments for letting the law-abiding go through life armed are classics for a reason. Classics never get old, and remain fresh and relevant no matter how much time passes. In stark contrast to the banalities of the anti-gun agenda, the pro-gun stance remains as vibrant today as when the Founding Fathers put it on paper over 200 years ago.
The voice of Martin Luther King, the wisdom of Benjamin Franklin and the unwavering leadership of General George Patton are all proof that the work of genius does not fade away. Instead, such work remains profound despite an ever-evolving society. America has changed in ways someone like Franklin could never fathom, yet his profound statement that people who give up freedom for security deserve neither is as relevant in our post-9/11 world as when he uttered it all those years ago.
Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday’s Buckeye State Roundabout
By Chris Chumita
There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.
What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.
From an 18 year-old woman being abducted in a “gun-free” zone and sexually assaulted, to an increase in gun club membership, these articles should be a part of your required reading!
What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.
Ohio gun rights improved in 2008; Much more still to be done
By Jim Irvine
Recently I helped our treasurer go through line by line all our donations for a campaign finance report. It struck me how many of you had donated, and how much some people donated. Thank you. It means a great deal that you put such trust in our group of leaders – who I promise will continue to work and earn that trust.
Our educational corporation, Buckeye Firearms Foundation has received final approval from the IRS for our non-profit status. Thus donations to the Foundation are tax deductible, and the Foundation can also accept corporate donations which the PAC (Buckeye Firearms Association) is prohibited from accepting. (To donate, simply mail checks to the same address, but made payable to “Buckeye Firearms Foundation” instead of “Association”)
The Association is a PAC, so it can use its money to influence elections, lobby for better laws and such. All donations and expenses are public record. No corporate donations permitted. Donations not tax-deductible.
The Foundation paid expenses for the Heller brief, but is now in need of funding for future lawsuits against cities who can’t figure out what “statewide preemption” means or learn from Ohio Supreme Court rulings. It sponsors the radio show, and has spent considerable time and money educating legislators. Of course with some 40 freshman legislators taking the oath in Columbus this month, the work starts again. We are also looking to teach and arm citizens who might not otherwise be able to afford a gun for protection, but who are more likely to need it than most of us. We need some corporate funding and personal donations are tax-deductible.
There is a complete 2008 Year in Review outline below, but I want to highlight a few things.
Obama and the Second Amendment
By John R. Lott, Jr.
Despite a huge Democratic Senate majority, Eric Holder’s confirmation hearings are going to be difficult. He has a long record to defend. Whether it is his involvement and inconsistent statements about Bill Clinton’s pardon of fugitive financier Marc Rich or his pushing Clinton’s clemency of the FALN terrorists or his failure to disclose his work for troubled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich after Blagojevich’s legal problems surfaced, he faces tough questions.
But Holder’s nomination raises other questions about what President-elect Barack Obama claimed he believed during the campaign. Numerous times he promised that he supported an individual’s right to own guns and that he wouldn’t do anything to take away people’s guns.

All Politicians are not the Same – an Interview with Congressman Steve Austria
By Gerard Valentino
Buckeye Firearms Association Chairman Jim Irvine is fond of saying that all politicians are not the same, despite people’s belief to the contrary. As proof that not all politicians are the same, Buckeye Firearms Association has set up interviews with pro-gun legislators, and other elected officials who believe strongly in the right to bear arms.
In this installment we cover newly-elected 7th District Congressman Steve Austria. Below are the questions we asked Senator Austria and his answers.
