Divert tax money to pro-gun candidates for FREE!

This is the time of year when many make charitable contributions. Tax deductible is good, but I’ve got a much better deal for you.

If you pay Ohio income tax this year, you are entitled to a $100 per couple ($50 per person) tax credit for donations to certain politicians. A credit is much different than a deduction. You don’t get a part of your donation back, you get the whole donation back as a tax refund.

If you do nothing, the tax-and-spenders in both parties will have no problem spending your tax dollars. But wouldn’t you rather take some of that money and divert it to a pro-gun candidate? Help the people you want to help change the law. It costs you nothing!

Early Christmas Gift: Supreme Court Refuses to Hear Case Against Gun Maker

On Monday, December 14, the U.S. Supreme Court handed Beretta U.S.A. and the firearms industry another victory by rejecting the Brady Center’s appeal of Adames v. Beretta U.S.A. Corporation challenging the constitutionality of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA).

The PLCAA is the 2005 federal law passed by Congress in response to the flood of reckless lawsuits brought by the Brady Center on behalf of anti-gun mayors seeking to hold members of the firearms industry liable for the criminal or unlawful misuse of their products.

This is now the third time this year the Supreme Court has denied a challenge to the PLCAA backed by the Brady Center. In March 2009, the Brady Center was also involved in the appeals of Lawson v. Beretta and City of New York v. Beretta, both of which the Supreme Court refused to hear. Monday’s Supreme Court decision in the Adames case is another stinging setback to the Brady Center’s failed anti-gun political agenda to destroy the individual right of Americans to keep and bear arms — a right the Supreme Court declared last year in Heller was protected by the Second Amendment.

Ohio hunters donate 95,500 pounds of venison to local food banks

The generosity and good will of Ohio hunters is having a major impact on needy Ohio families. The Ohio DNR is reporting venison donations to local food banks are almost triple what they were at this point in 2008. In fact with over 6 weeks of deer season still to go, 2009 donations to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry are almost double what was donated for the entire 2008 season.

If you are a hunter who successfully harvests deer this season, please consider helping Ohio’s hungry via this program. There is no cost to you by simply donating at a participating processor.

Gun control advocates seek to “tighten” gun laws

Over the last few months, the anti-gun movement, with help from the establishment media, has started a new attack campaign with their usual flair for the dramatic and lack of concern for the facts.

Every article on gun-control during that time period mentioned that America has “loosened” regulations on buying, carrying, and owning guns over the last three decades. It is as if media outlets from Fox News to Politico.com to Philly.com to The Washington Times all got the phrase from the same place.

We’ve seen this play before. The anti-gun movement has used terms such as “Saturday night special” or “assault weapon” to get the media to define a type of gun or type of law in the most provocative way possible. Usually, the anti-gun talking points are welcomed by the establishment media because anything provocative increases television ratings and newspaper circulation rates.

You can also bet that by defining our current gun laws as “loose,” the anti-gun leadership is setting up the debate so they can claim the need to “tighten” regulations, not enforce an outright ban on private ownership or repeal concealed carry laws. Instead, they will be repackaging the old argument for reasonable gun control with a new, less threatening catch phrase.

Ohio Republican Party does not endorse in Attorney General race between staunch pro-gun/ anti-gun candidates

The news that the Ohio Republican Party (ORP) did not make an endorsement in the Ohio Attorney General race is making waves. Blogs have been making the most of it. Ohio political columnist William Hershey had pieces in the major Ohio newspapers, including the left-wing Dayton Daily News.

It is reported that DeWine is not disappointed but pressing forward with the race. Hershey reported in the December 9 Dayton Daily News, said that Mark Caleb Smith, director of the Center for Political Studies at Cedarville University (Mike DeWine’s hometown college) notes that this reflects a battle between the old-line moderates and the conservatives for the control of the GOP. Only a extreme moderate – make that a liberal – could ever call Mike DeWine’s record as one of a moderate. Unless by “old-line moderate” he means liberal.

Mike DeWine is attempting to re-invent himself as a moderate to conservative candidate. He has shown up at various sportsmen venues pressing the case that he is moderate on the gun issue and our rights are safe with him. I’ve got to hand it to him for showing up. However attempting to represent himself as a protector of the Second Amendment is, at best, laughable. Mike DeWine remains the only Republican candidate ever endorsed by the Brady Campaign. This was over Sherrod Brown, which really says something about how bad Mike DeWine’s record is for gun owners.

Protecting Gun Shows : It’s Time for Some Self-Regulation

Anyone who does not hold an FFL and sells a firearm to someone he doesn’t know well is incurring a certain amount of liability. And, a bit of bad judgment could cause trouble not just for the seller, but for the rest of the gun owning community as well.

There is no question that individuals have the right to buy, sell, and trade firearms between themselves without government infringement. But there are laws on the books and failing to know and follow them is just asking for trouble. A prudent trader will take into account not only the legal technicalities, but the political environment also.

Typo in Federal law mandates locking train passengers in boxes

Fox News is reporting that the bill intending to allow passengers to check guns on Amtrak has a typo in it requiring not just the gun, but the passenger to be “locked in boxes for their journey.”

While this seems funny, we must remember little mistakes in Ohio’s first concealed carry law that made it illegal to for someone to legally transport a handgun in a car without a concealed carry license. It was years and at least one person convicted of a felony before the legislature fixed the problem. Hopefully Congress will act a little quicker.

Terrorism and Gun Control: A Perfect Match

no gun sign The terrorist attack committed by Major Nidal Malik Hasan at Fort Hood, Texas brought the lack of security at such a large military base directly into homes across America.

Leaders of the pro-gun movement, and many soldiers, weren’t quite as shocked because they knew most military bases are considered “gun-free zones,” due to concealed carry being banned.

Whether Hasan’s attack on American soldiers was sponsored by one of the bigger terrorist organizations is irrelevant since it gave terrorists a road map to complete similar attacks in the future. You can bet our enemies learned valuable lessons from his ability to kill so many of our best and brightest in such a short period of time. In one fell swoop, he taught terrorists where millions of Americans are essentially defenseless.

His lesson included an easy way for our enemies to pick a spot to strike again – simply follow the “no gun” signs.
