Texas bank posts sign encouraging concealed carry

The Brenham Banner-Press in Texas reported recently that a bank in Chappell Hill, TX (about half-way between Houston and Austin) removed a “no-guns” sign over the summer and put up a sign of an altogether different kind.

Any would-be robbers looking to walk into the bank here had best think twice.

There’s a new sign in town.

About a month ago, Chappell Hill Bank president Edward Smith looked at a sign on the front door prohibiting concealed weapons from his business and decided to make a policy change.

Licensed to carry a handgun? Come on in, and bring your weapon.

The sign, now prominently displayed on the bank’s front door, says, “Lawful concealed carry permitted on these premises. Management recognizes the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution as an inalienable right of all citizens. We therefore support and encourage the carrying of licensed concealed weapons.”

Smith told the newspaper he made the policy change to send a warning to potential robbers, and also to express support to Americans’ right to bear arms.

NWTF will host 39 Get Outside Events on National Hunting and Fishing Day Sept. 25

On Sept. 25, millions of Americans will celebrate some of the nation’s proudest traditions in the field and on the water during National Hunting and Fishing Day.

The official “holiday” is the perfect chance for America’s more than 38 million hunters and anglers to get outside and hunt or fish and invite someone new to experience the outdoors.

To help introduce newcomers to outdoors, chapters from the National Wild Turkey Federation will host 39 outreach events across the country on National Hunting and Fishing Day and more than 125 events throughout the fall.

“Part of what makes hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities so important to millions of Americans is the fact that anyone can participate,” said Tom Hughes, NWTF assistant vice president of education and outreach. “Age, sex or skill levels don’t matter in the great outdoors. Our outreach programs are designed to help anyone and everyone try all sorts of outdoor activities.”

Women in the Outdoors, JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) and Wheelin’ Sportsmen provide outdoor opportunities for women, youth and people with disabilities respectively. Throughout the year, local NWTF chapters host hundreds of events nationwide that offer participants countless outdoor recreation opportunities.

From hosting hunts for people with disabilities, to training women in self-defense, archery and more, to educating youth about wildlife and conservation, the outreach programs are vital to preserving America’s hunting heritage.

BFA’s Larry S. Moore named National Wild Turkey Federation/ Women in the Outdoors Hunter Education Instructor of the Year

Buckeye Firearms Regional Leader volunteer Larry Moore was recently recognized by the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and Women in the Outdoors (WITO) as Hunter Education Instructor of the Year. The award was presented at the River Valley Longbeards annual banquet.

Presenting the award was WITO Coordinator Anthony Brooks who noted, “Moore drives here to teach at our WITO event every year. Along with Ten Point Crossbows, Moore instructs and promotes the use of crossbows. We appreciate the support Moore and Ten Point Crossbows have provided to the program. It’s this support that makes the NWTF and WITO events both popular and successful.”

Moore noted, “I really enjoy sharing our outdoor heritage with new hunters and shooters. It’s a pleasure to be at River Valley Longbeards and instruct at the WITO event. The WITO committee works hard to have everything organized. It’s a great event to instruct. I’m happy to support these efforts. Ten Point Crossbows is also proud to support WITO. WITO is a wonderful outreach program to promote outdoor recreation, conservation and hunting. Thank you.”

Good Samaritan couple with Ohio concealed carry licenses stop beating

Cleveland area media are reporting that Wadsworth police are crediting a gun-carrying couple for helping them catch a man who was allegedly beating his girlfriend in a parking lot in front of her two small children.

From NewsChannel5 (Cleveland’s ABC affiliate):

Officers said the couple pulled into the Wadsworth McDonald’s on High Street Sunday and saw a man hitting a woman in another vehicle.

Police said the couple, who each have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, called 911 then pulled out their guns and ordered the man to the ground.

“My husband and I both have CCW licenses and we were in fear of her life, and we drew our weapons on him,” Heather Evans told the 911 dispatcher.

Police said the man, 18-year-old Anthony Konopinski, then ran off. A third witness then ran after Konopinski, calling police to tell them where they were headed.

The suspect was caught a half a mile away. Police said they had to use a taser to subdue Konopinski.

Cleveland announces “voluntary” handgun registration – help us tell them “NO!”

According to WKYC.com, “Cleveland residents who want to register their handguns can do so 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Let that idea sink in for a moment. Cleveland has launched a voluntary handgun registration program. For what purpose? Are they expecting criminals to register their guns? Not likely. And if any law-abiding citizens register, what will authorities do with the information?

So we are helping Cleveland residents fight back.

Obama reveals anti-gun U.N. intent: Sends ex-Seattle mayor as Rep

The appointment of anti-gun rights former Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels as an alternate representative to the United Nations has removed any doubt about the Obama administration’s intentions regarding global gun control initiatives, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Nickels, a founding member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the author of Seattle’s failed attempt to override Washington’s state firearms preemption statute, was sworn in Wednesday to “help represent the United States in the UN assembly,” according to the Seattle Times.

“Putting an extremist gun banner in any position to represent this country at the United Nations amounts to renting a billboard for advertising against the Second Amendment,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “While he was Seattle’s mayor, Greg Nickels supported every anti-gun scheme put forth by Washington CeaseFire, the Northwest’s most active gun prohibition lobby.
