Arizona Shooting Leads to Repeat of Inaccuracies
by Jim Shepherd
Last weekend’s shooting rampage in Arizona was a senseless crime against decency, and totally without reason. Trying to portray the actions of an obviously disturbed twenty-two year old shooter as anything other than the actions of a lunatic simply don’t wash.
Despite the fact it appears the attack was planned and executed, no sane individual would set out on a Saturday morning with the goal of assassinating a politician and slaughtering anyone who happened to be unfortunate enough to be there. Should Jared Loughner should be spared the death penalty because of diminished capacity? Thankfully (for Loughner) that’s not for us to decide.
What we could all do, however, is stop watching and listening silently as the media keeps pushing a one-sided characterization of firearms and their owners.
Since this tragedy, mainstream media has once again repeated half-truths and inaccurate statements with little regard for – or knowledge of- the inaccuracy of their so-called facts. And it seems no one is calling them on those inaccuracies.
The Legacy of WWII Veteran Dick Winters Lives on in Arizona
Editor’s Note: This article is also featured today at WorldNetDaily.com

During the wall-to-wall coverage of the Arizona spree killing and attempted assasination of a U.S. Congresswoman, a small news blurb was hardly noticed by most of America – Major Richard Winters of “Band of Brothers” fame died in his rural Pennsylvania home.
For those not familiar with his story, Richard Winters became the commander of E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division on D-Day when the acting commander was killed and led the unit throughout the Normandy Campaign. He was then promoted to Battalion Executive Officer where he fought in Bastogne and throughout the rest of the war.
On D-Day he led a tactically perfect assault on Brecourt Manor where the Germans had artillery set up to fire directly onto Utah beach. By destroying the guns, then-Lt. Winters saved countless lives. Sadly, he was never awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his exploits, even though he took out the guns despite a severe numerical disadvantage.
At the time, the 101st Airborne Division had an arbitrary rule that only one soldier could be recommended for the Medal of Honor, so Winters was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
Sadly, the death of a true American hero was overshadowed by the act of a lunatic, and Winters didn’t get the recognition he deserved.
Delaware city councilman calls for lift of state’s ban on concealed carry in public buildings
by Chad D. Baus
In the wake of a shooting at Florida school board meeting, and the mass shooting in Arizona that accompanied as assassination attempt against U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a Delware, Ohio city councilman is says it’s time that the statewide ban on concealed carry in public buildings be lifted.
From the article:
Delaware City Council members this week discussed security measures for Delaware’s public officials.
Council met Monday, Jan. 10, and began its meeting with Councilwoman Lisa Keller’s invocation, which included a moment of silence in honor of the victims of the shooting, as well as for U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head but is expected to survive.
Giffords had been hosting an event at a Tucson supermarket Saturday, Jan. 8, when 22-year-old Jared Loughner allegedly began his shooting spree.
In light of these events, Delaware Councilman Andrew Brush encouraged council members to be proactive and to take precautions.
“We are all sitting ducks here,” he said. “People can come and go as they please. We have no security here during meetings.”
Delaware city buildings do not allow concealed weapons, with signs posted throughout the buildings indicating the no-gun policy.
City spokesman Lee Yoakum said Ohio revised code bans firearms in public buildings.
Brush suggested the ban on concealed weapons be revoked.
“No sign that says ‘no gun’ will stop a lunatic from coming in and wreaking havoc,” Brush observed. “Concealed weapons should be allowed to come in these public buildings. We shouldn’t be at risk during these meetings.”

The FBI has released its National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figures for December 2010. NSSF-adjusted figures (1,133,371) show a 9.9 percent increase over NSSF-adjusted figures from December 2009 (1,031,344). For…
Loose cannons in the media are wrong to place blame for Tucson attack on anyone but the killer
by Chad D. Baus
Within minutes of learning of the tragic mass murder in Tuscon, Arizona last Saturday, the establishment media began shooting from the hip on who they thought was to blame. They knew nothing about the killer, but it was clear they were cocked and ready with a template that fit their jaded view of anyone who owns a gun.
Reporters were loaded for bear. Without even a shred of proof the delusional killer had seen Sarah Palin’s election-related political comments, or had ever listened to Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, they began shooting off at the mouth, saying that “incendiary” language from Palin, Limbaugh and members of the TEA Party was to blame for what had happened. They had decided to shoot first, and asked questions later.
The media drew a bead on Palin’s use of crosshairs on an election map, which provided a “target list” denoting districts her political action commmittee sought to win back for Republicans in the November election. The media also took aim at Palin having once told her supporters, in response to critics who were pressuring her to back down, “Don’t retreat – instead, RELOAD!”
The journalists kept firing away at Palin’s use of these political metaphors. It was clear that these journalists, which Limbaugh has termed the “drive-by media,” thought that destroying their enemies with this tragedy was going to be easier than shooting fish in a barrel. And so they continued, with guns blazing away. But they were shooting blind.
In fact, when he too asserted that political speech from the right was to blame for these events, Pima Co. (AZ) Sheriff Clarence Dupnik was asked point blank by a FOX News’ Megyn Kelly if he had any proof to back the allegations up. The sheriff, a Democrat, admitted he did not, then continued to give his opponents both barrels anyways.
White House Delays Multiple Sales Reporting Requirement for Long Guns
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is reporting that an ATF proposal to require federally licensed firearms retailers to report multiple sales of rifles has been placed on hold by the White House amid stiff opposition from the firearms industry and NRA. Specifically, the ATF requirement calls for firearm retailers to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of two or more semi-automatic rifles that are larger than .22 caliber, capable of accepting a detachable magazine and are purchased by the same individual within five consecutive business days.
Though ATF has called this proposal an “emergency” mandate, it was originally pushed by the anti-gun Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) coalition more than a year and a half ago.
ATF lacks the authority to mandate multiple long gun sales requirements. Last year, the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) reviewed ATF’s Project Gunrunner. In that report, OIG recommended that ATF “explore options for seeking a requirement for [the] reporting of multiple sales of long guns.” ATF Deputy Director Kenneth Melson concurred with the recommendation, but noted that such a mandate would “require a change to the Gun Control Act which is beyond ATF’s and the Departments authority.” NSSF agrees with ATF Deputy Director Melson. Such action would require a change to the Gun Control Act and neither ATF nor DOJ have the authority to do so.
Arizona Shootings: Next to the killer, MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann was the Worst Person of the Day
by Gerard Valentino
The attack of a ruthless and mindless killer on Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Federal Judge John Roll and a group of innocent bystanders was a terrorist act, just as 9/11 was a terrorist attack. Every American should be outraged and saddened by the cowardly actions of the murderer. Terrorism has many faces and in this case it appears a lone, deranged individual chose to strike at the very heart of America.
Everyone at the Buckeye Firearms Association extends our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of all the victims of this tragic shooting.
Sadly, the smoke had barely cleared after Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot before the anti-gun world and anti-Tea Party extremists started to dance in her blood. Their willingness to prey on tragedy is a sad state of affairs, but nothing that should shock well-meaning and well-intentioned Americans.
Before the shooter was named, anti-Tea Party messages started appearing on political websites, and leftist talking heads were attacking the far right in America – a prelude to an avalanche of crazed anti-Tea Party diatribes that were posted on the Internet.
Less than twenty minutes after news of the shooting broke, a CNN contributor implied that Arizona’s gun culture, and Arizona’s fetish for guns was to blame for the shooting. Such a comment shortly after a horrific spree killing is beneath contempt and shows how low some people will go to push their selfish agenda.
