Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Thomas Suddes’ racist remarks about gun owners are ignored by the politically-correct thought police

A recent comment penned by long-time Cleveland Plain Dealer columnist Thomas Suddes is a reminder that the left in America can make racist comments without fear of repercussions. It also teaches us that attacking gun owners and conservatives is not only acceptable under the left’s politically correct guidelines, it is apparently encouraged.

The best way to tell if a comment is wrongheaded is to imagine the same sentiment being used to describe a minority group. A great example are the commercials run by a well known Italian restaurant that stereotype Italians as boisterous, swarthy, short people who can’t say a word without gesturing wildly.

If such a generalization were used to illustrate ethnic groups protected under politically correct rules, the creator would be tagged as a racist, or worse.

So, when Thomas Suddes tagged all gun owners and conservatives as “old- white- guy gun nuts,” and “gay-bashers,” in his recent editorial titled “Where Ohio is Growing, Republicans are Winning,” he clearly crossed the line.

But, since gun owners are not deemed as worthy of protection by the leftist politically correct elite, Suddes will not be chastised for his racist remarks.

Man Pleads Guilty to Poaching Near $24,000 Trophy Buck

Largest restitution for a poached deer ever imposed in Ohio

A Logan County man pled guilty to three wildlife violations stemming from the illegal taking of a trophy white-tailed deer in the Bellefontaine Municipal Court on Monday, January 3. As a result, he will be required to pay $23,816.59 in restitution, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

James C. Alspaugh, 39, of West Mansfield pled guilty to three charges including hunting by the aid of a motor vehicle, shooting from a roadway, and hunting without permission. The Honorable Judge John Ross presided over the case and ordered Alspaugh to pay $400 in fines, an additional $151.50 in court costs, and to forfeit the deer. Alspaugh was ordered to spend 48 hours in the Logan County Jail.

In addition, Alspaugh will lose his hunting privileges for two years. He will be entered into the Wildlife Violator’s Compact and most likely will lose hunting rights in 36 other states.

The Division of Wildlife is also imposing restitution for the deer in the amount of $23,816.95. This is in accordance with Ohio’s revised restitution law for illegal taking of white-tailed deer. The law went into effect March 2008 and allows the Division of Wildlife to seek an increased recovery value on all illegally harvested wildlife.

Fearing homeowner has gun, BURGLAR dials 911

According to a recent report at USAToday.com, the mere inference of an armed victim was enough to force a burglar to cower in a bathroom and then dial 911 so the police would protect him. The incident took place in Portland, Oregon and was set in motion when a hapless crook was still in the process of robbing a home when the homeowner returned.

From the article:

Timothy Chapek, 24, was already in the house in southwest Portland when the owner, accompanied by two German shepherds, arrived, according to police.

Chapek, fearing the homeowner was armed, locked himself in the bathroom and called 911.

The owner, upset about an intruder in his[sic] home, also called the emergency line to report the burglary.

As it turned out, the female homeowner wasn’t armed, but just the thought of an armed victim was enough to deter the criminal from confronting the homeowner. Although not statistically relevant to the gun debate, this incident is anecdotal evidence of the power of a gun in the hands of an honest citizen.

It also furthers the pro-gun argument that criminals prefer unarmed victims.

Cases like this are the Achilles heel of the anti-gun movement because they can’t combat the benefit the mere thought of a gun brings to a situations like this.

Pro-gun rights activists outbid cops for ‘buy back’ guns

‘They’re going to destroy firearms; we’re going to put them in hands of citizens’

While the Austin, Texas, police were offering grocery cards in exchange for unwanted firearms over the weekend, local activists showed up to outbid the men in uniform, insisting liberty would be better served if the guns were in the hands of law-abiding citizens instead.

At the “no-questions-asked” event held at Oak Meadow Baptist Church in South Austin, the Austin Police Department offered, for example, a $100 Visa grocery card for an unwanted handgun. The activists offered $110 in cash.

“We don’t agree with the ‘Guns for Groceries’ program, because they’re going to destroy most of the firearms,” explained John Bush, executive director of the group Texans for Accountable Government. “The firearms that we purchase, we’re going to put them in the hands of [Texans] who are in need of firearms to protect their families but they can’t afford them.”

USSA Hosts Annual Legislative Reception

Ohio sportsmen and women flocked to Columbus to attend the USSA legislative reception. The sportsmen were anxious to hear what the legislative leaders might say regarding Ohio’s budget and the impact on the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Issues on their minds included the budget, drilling on ODNR Park lands, proposed concealed carry legislation and the Asian carp threatening Lake Erie.

Ohio House Speaker Bill Batchelder (R – Medina) and Senate President Tom Niehaus (R – New Richmond) were scheduled as the key-note speakers. However, Governor Kasich scheduled a Town Hall meeting to present his budget. This event required the attendance of not only the Speaker and Senate President but the legislators as well. Many legislators were at the event early or stopped much later in the evening. Most sent aides to meet with constituents and represent them for the evening.

The speakers for the evening included Scott Zody, Assistant Director ODNR. Zody immediately tackled the budget situation noting, “I want to update the budget which is the business of the day. First the good news, the Wildlife Fund is whole and we will do our best to ensure it remains protected. The Division of Wildlife is looking at a maintenance level budget. We were successful in obtaining General Revenue Funds to cover the central support charges. The good news is there is no immediate threat, however caution is always the watch word. Keep an eye on things and stay in touch with our legislators.”

Law-abiding citizens respond to drug war explosion in southern Ohio by purchasing firearms and licenses to carry concealed

Seems the days of the unlocked front doors are gone forever! I can remember as a child in my Southern Ohio home that we, as well as many of the neighbors very seldom locked their doors at night. Oh the days gone by of feeling totally safe in one’s own home. How I truly miss that feeling. Today there are gated communities, home security systems, house watchers, fences, animal home protectors and other ways to keep an eye on our castles to help prevent intruders.

Now in the city of “ground zero” of drug use, crime is about the worst anyone in the area has ever seen. The use of drugs, the selling of drugs and everything else related to drugs and their use has now brought fear into the hearts and lives of the citizens of Ohio. The addiction of and use of drugs requires money, and lots of it. The easiest way to obtain money for the drug user is to sell various items of value. Only one problem here, the user usually has no job or items of value. So to sell items of value they have to steal those valuable items from the home of an honest citizen whether it be from armed robbery or the breaking and entering of a citizens home. This often puts innocent lives at risk.

For many years the citizens of Ohio were told that in case of a break in, you must retreat when anyone forcibly enters your home. Now with the hard work of BFA and the cooperation of our elected officials we can “stand our ground” and protect ourselves and our family members without the fear of being sued, arrested, or taken to court to prove our innocence.

Buckeye State’s anti-gun puppetmaster pulls strings in debate at The City Club of Cleveland

Early last month, Ohioans For Concealed Carry’s Jeff Garvas and Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence’s Toby Hoover were invited by The City Club Of Cleveland to debate on the issue of speak about each side of the issue of gun control and the Second Amendment.

According to their website, The City Club’s Friday Forums are radio broadcast to listeners in more than 40 states.

The debate format consisted of a ten minute introduction by each panelist, followed by a few questions from the moderator. The majority of the questions were presented by the audience.

By all accounts, Garvas did an excellent job of representing the pro-Second Amendment rights point of view as he faced a wide range of questions on questions on Second Amendment and gun control issues.

One question posed to Garvas that has received a good deal of attention was posed by a woman who identified herself as Rosetta Craig. What Craig failed to mention when she invited Garvas to attend a wake for a victim of gun violence with her was that she is in fact a member of the OCAGV board of directors – in other words, a plant by Toby Hoover, who has been previously identified on this website as The Buckeye State’s Anti-Gun Puppetmaster.
