Get the word out: Support Josh Mandel for U.S. Senate
by Jim Irvine
Months ago, Josh Mandel (R) was considered an unlikely candidate to help the GOP gain a majority in the U.S. Senate. Many considered his opponent Sherrod Brown (D), who is closely tied to the unpopular Obama policies, unbeatable. Not anymore.
A year ago Public Policy Polling noted that Brown had a 48-33 lead over Mandel, and that Mandel was up from only 31%. Overcoming a 15-17 point deficit is almost impossible. But impossible is not in Josh Mandel’s vocabulary.
On Saturday, elections projection.com moved Ohio from “Moderate DEM” to “Weak DEM.” Real Clear Politics lists Ohio as a toss-up state. Some polls still show Brown with a sizable lead, but those polls seem to over-sample Democrats. Mandel’s campaign is feeling confident with what their internal polls are telling them – this is a winnable race.
FLASH: Obama vows new push to ban semi-automatic rifles in a second term; Romney challenges President over “Fast & Furious”
[Editor’s Note: This article has been updated.]
by Chad D. Baus
In his second debate with Governor Mitt Romney on Tuesday Oct. 16, President Barack Obama pledged to renew his push to ban certain semi-automatic sporting rifles, should he win a second term.
The discussion on the two candidates’ positions on the Second Amendment followed for several minutes, and Mitt Romney raised the issue of the Obama Justice Department’s “Fast & Furious” operation, which allowed thousands of guns to be “walked” across the border and into the hands of murderous Mexican drug lords.

Buckeye Firearms Assoc. leaders attend Sportsmen for Romney/Ryan Rally in Cincinnati
by Larry S. Moore
Sportsmen for Romney/Ryan gathered at the Bass Pro Store at the Forest Park Shopping Center to show support for the Republican ticket in November. They heard from quite a group of sportsmen. National television show host and former CEO of the NWTF, Rob Keck, served as the emcee. Chris Cox, Executive Director of the NRA/ILA took the lead. He was followed by Former Division of Wildlife Chief Mike Budzik, who is leading the Ohio Sportsmen for Romney/Ryan effort; Josh Romney and then national comedian Jeff Foxworthy served as the anchor for the event. The speakers were passionate and clear in the message about the critical nature of the election.
Mike Budzik lead the invocation. Vietnam veteran, Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient Dick Stobbs lead the Pledge of Allegiance. It was interesting to note that at almost every sporting event where the Pledge is offered, the announcer will remind the men to remove their hats. There was no such reminder crowd today. None was needed, for the veterans and sportsmen, these rugged freedom loving individuals, knew the proper way to show respect.
Keck opened noting, “As Clint Eastwood said in Tampa, ‘we own this country, we built it and we shed blood for it. We ain’t giving it away.’ Thank you for being here. I know why you are here. You are concerned about our country and our future. You are concerned about being able to own guns and go hunting. You are concerned about your children and grandchildren just like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are concerned. You are concerned about the future of our sport. You know what hunting and fishing means in terms of our economy. You are concerned about your quality of life. We are on track to elect Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to turn around the direction of this country.” Keck introduced many of the sportsmen leaders at the event with a special thanks to Johnny Morris of Bass Pro Shops for allowing us to be at his store.
Chris Cox acknowledged the leaders in the crowd, including those representing Buckeye Firearms Association. He quickly moved to the urgent message.
NRA-PVF: “Defend Freedom, Boot Brown”
The NRA-PVF is working hard to educate voters on Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown in advance of the Nov. 6 election.
Ask Sherrod Brown:
Why Does He Oppose Your Freedoms?Sure, Sherrod Brown may say he supports your Second Amendment rights. But don’t be fooled. Sherrod Brown can’t be trusted to protect our rights and freedoms. Judge Sherrod Brown based on his record. And the record is clear.
- Sherrod Brown repeatedly voted to ban millions of commonly owned firearms. (1)
- Sherrod Brown voted to ban virtually all rifle ammunition for deer hunting. (2)
- Sherrod Brown voted against your right to self-defense. (3)
- Sherrod Brown voted to end gun shows as we know them. (4)
- Sherrod Brown voted to support lawsuits intended to bankrupt the gun industry.(5)

Brown is opposed by Josh Mandel, who has earned “A” grades and been endorsed by both Buckeye Firearms Association and NRA-PVF.
UN Arms Trade Treaty Lives
by Alan Korwin
The lamestream media told you:
The UN Arms Trade Treaty ended in failure, as the parties could not reach agreement before their self-imposed deadline. A dull sentiment of remorse fell over the conference as high hopes for an agreement ended dashed. Both Hillary and Barack withdrew their support in the eleventh hour when it became apparent the agreement would not be finalized. The Huffington Post blamed the Obama administration for the failure, and also the NRA which it said spread “lies”; USA Today blamed it on the U.S., Russia and China, who asked for more time to review the draft.
The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:
The first draft of the current effort at a UN Arms Trade Treaty was a smashing success after nearly six years of effort and a solid month of direct negotiations in New York at UN headquarters. It yielded a draft proposal with many of the most difficult terms and conditions hammered out in grueling sessions with all major parties and 170 nations represented.
This is how a treaty like this gets enacted. In fits and starts. Ideas come together over a period of years, and are gtahered in drafts and proposals like this one. We can now see how everyone is thinking — and it is not in defense of our rights. Ostensibly, the treaty is about international arms trade, but functionally, it attempts to regulate arms from top to bottom.
No one who really understands the situation seriously expected a final document to come out of these first round negotiations. Media reports however did carefully lead the uninformed public into holding out false hope for such a result, leading to a widespread sense of failure. This will help boost public support when the next effort seems to magically spring forth.
Student Activist Group Celebrates First Birthday with Fundraising Dinner
Buckeyes for Concealed Carry on Campus kicks off the lawsuit challenging Ohio State’s violation of Ohio Revised Code 9.68 fundraising efforts with an Italian family-style dinner featuring Nikki Goeser, the NRA’s 2012 Sybil Ludington Women’s Freedom Award Winner.
“Ms. Goeser is a hero to me and many of our members. We are proud that she has agreed to speak at our first annual birthday dinner,” said Joe Smith, President of Buckeyes for Concealed Carry on Campus.
The group says on its website that “Nikki’s story is a perfect example of how laws and policies make victims out of law-abiding citizens.”
Goeser, who has been featured in USA Today and has made appearances on shows such as Stossel’s Take on Fox News, watched as her husband Ben was brutally murdered while her defensive handgun was locked safely away in her car as required by Tennessee Law. Since Ben fell victim to Nikki’s stalker, she has worked tirelessly to change laws in Tennessee. Her proponent testimony also helped change gun control laws in Ohio.
“Her testimony before the Ohio Legislature helped lawmakers understand how victims were created by gun free zones,” said Linda Walker, Buckeye Firearms Association Central Ohio Chair. “You just can’t listen to her tell that story without tearing up. She puts a face to the victimization created by gun control.”
Walker is also a member of the NRA’s Board of Directors and 2009 recipient of the NRA’s Sybil Ludington Women’s Freedom Award.
Mike Newbern, Ohio Students for Concealed Carry State Director, says that Goeser’s appearance will mark the official kickoff of fundraising efforts.
Report: PETA attempting to buy ad space on lunch trays in Cleveland Schools
by Chad D. Baus
StateImpact.NPR.org is reported recently that the extremist anti-hunting organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, otherwise known as PETA, is trying to purchase advertising on Cleveland school district lunch trays.
From the article:
PETA Executive Director Tracy Reiman sent Cleveland school district CEO Eric Gordon a letter this week proposing to help fill the district’s $13 million budget gap by opening up lunch trays to advertisements.
“I’m writing with an idea to help move your city’s school budget a little bit more toward the black,” Reiman says in her letter. “Open up cafeteria lunch trays (both disposable and reusable) to paid ads promoting nutritious foods and healthy behavior for kids, and allow us to run the first one, featuring an adorable chicken proclaiming, ‘I Am Not a Nugget—Go Vegan.'”
Alicia Woempner, a project manager at PETA, says the group is “always on the lookout for schools or cities or municipalities that can benefit from our support while we also help animals at the same time.”
Woempner says PETA hasn’t gotten an official response from the district yet, but it did get word that the letter was forwarded on to Regis Balaban, the district’s director of food and child nutrition services.
“We just haven’t had the time to thoroughly review it,” says district spokesperson Roseann Canfora. “We haven’t allowed advertisements on school lunch trays in the past, but it raises some interesting questions about whether that’s a legitimate revenue source.”
According to the article, this isn’t the first time PETA has offered to buy advertising space.
Logic and reason don’t apply in the Obama era
by Tim Inwood
I have been watching the ACLU and Justice Department sue all these states with voter ID laws; it has got me thinking and I am really excited. By their logic I can see the next big issue the ACLU and the Justice Department will obviously tackle: gun rights.
That’s right, logically that action will be suing the United States Government for violating the rights of American citizens when they want to buy a gun by forcing them to show a picture ID.
What an outrage!
Prior to 1968 mail order gun sales were the norm. All you had to do was snip out the ad, send in your money and the post man brought you the gun and ammo you ordered. There was no background check, no form 4473 to fill out, no registration or asking permission and no photo ID required. By comparison to today, crime was low in the decades prior to the enactment of the Gun Control Act of 1968. It was a glorious time when for most of the country it was easy to exercise our right to keep and bear arms. Then the U.S. Government began infringing on our rights, a terrible injustice and indignity that we had to ask permission to exercise our right to own a gun.
