Gun owners: The time to stand up is now!
Editor’s Note: This op-ed was originally published at WorldNetDaily.com.
by Gerard Valentino
There have been times the pro-gun lobby looked irrelevant in America and when it looked like the private ownership of firearms was going to be relegated to the historical scrap heap.
This is not that time.
There was a time when owning a gun in American was seen as a sign of being socially backward, and the mere mention of guns was taboo.
This is not that time.
There was a time when the anti-gun zealots were able to pin the blame for mass murders on the gun industry and pro-gun groups like the National Rifle Association and Buckeye Firearms Association.
This is not that time.
Now is the time for each and every gun owner in America to stand up and be counted.

Op-ed: Gun control is about control, not guns
2nd Amendment is a check on government power
by Thomas Lucente
There is one truism that should not be forgotten in the national conversation on guns: Even if you repeal the Second Amendment it will have no affect on my God-given natural right to keep and bear arms.
That is because rights are not political grants from government. Rights are inalienable gifts from Providence. We possess them by simply existing.
And that right is not for hunting, as many on the left want to claim. Nor is it for personal self-defense against criminals. Ultimately, the right to bear arms is a protection against government.
The Framers knew this and that is why they specifically protected that right by enumerating it in the Constitution. They did not give us the right, mind you. They simply created a rule that forbids the government from infringing it.
They did not need to do this. The Constitution was written as a limiting document. There is no clause in the Constitution allowing the government to infringe on that right. However, some people were afraid extra protection was needed for certain rights and, thus, the Bill of Rights was born.
And among those rights the Framers felt needed extra protection was the right to keep and bear arms. As nearly everything relating to the Constitution, the right was specifically meant to protect the people from an abusive state.
The True Source Of Random & Mass Shootings And Violence?
Why are politicians focusing on the tools mass murderers use instead of on how society may be creating its own monsters with the prevalent use of psychiatric and psychotropic drugs in children?
Whether the mass murderers were on their medication at the time of their acts, or had stopped taking them, the following medical and psychiatric professionals believe the drugs are to blame, not the tools the killers used.

More than 200 exhibitors withdraw from PA outdoor show after organizer bans modern sporting rifles
OutdoorLife.com is reporting that, by mid-day on Jan. 23, more than 200 exhibitors — and counting — had withdrawn from the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show, Pennsylvania’s largest annual outdoor sports show, following event organizer Reed Exhibitions’ decision to ban the display and sale of modern sporting rifles and standard-capacity magazines.
[UPDATE: Show “postponed”]
From the article:
The nine-day show is scheduled to open Feb. 2 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.
The ESOS’s website says Reed “strongly supports the 2nd Amendment” but negative attention on such weapons “would distract from the strong focus on hunting and fishing at this family-oriented event and possibly disrupt the broader positive experience of our guests.”
Unfortunately for Reed, there may not be much at the show for guests to “experience” with the departure of many prominent exhibitors and vendors.
Among the departed: The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Cabela’s, Inc., the National Wild Turkey Federation, the National Rifle Association, Smith & Wesson, and many local vendors, such as Kinsey’s Outdoors of Mount Joy, Lancaster Archery Supply, and Trop Gun Shop of Elizabethtown.
The Montana-based Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation canceled its exhibit and its management of the show’s elk-calling contest before issuing a statement calling actions taken by Reed, a British company: “detrimental to the Second Amendment and our right as Americans to bear arms.”
“We urge Reed Exhibitions to reconsider its policies to avoid a divisive and political atmosphere,” the statement continues, “so RMEF can take part in an event that generates needed revenue for important on-the-ground conservation and hunting heritage projects in the region.”
Cabela’s said on its Facebook page on Jan. 19 that after considering Reed’s decision “and the feelings of our customers, Cabela’s will, unfortunately, not have a presence at the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show.”
The NRA issued a statement calling upon Reed to reconsider. “Unfortunately they have steadfastly refused to do so,” the NRA statement reads. “Due to Reed Exhibitions’ refusal to reconsider their decision to ban modern sporting rifles from the (show), the National Rifle Association has decided to withdraw from the show.”

Op-Ed: Gun control has a clear record of failure
by Tom Gresham
In the wake of the horrific murders at the Sandy Hook school in Connecticut, America has been deluged with calls for ever-more-restrictive gun-control laws, and that’s understandable. It’s natural to think that’s the solution if you don’t know these measures have been tried and have always failed.
We crave a solution so much that we’ll ignore the record and keep repeating failed policies.
We are told that we need gun-control laws. Sounds good, right? Should we make it illegal for anyone adjudicated to be mentally ill to buy a gun? Let’s make it illegal for felons to possess guns. Let’s license gun dealers and require the FBI to do a background check on anyone buying a gun from these stores. How about an age restriction on buying guns? Gun shows should have to follow the same laws as everyone else.
All those already are law, and there are some 20,000 additional gun-control laws in the U.S. Before one can rationally call for passage of gun laws, he or she must know what already is covered.
