Except among dyed-in-the-wool anti-gun fanatics, it is a commonly accepted fact that Right-to-Carry laws not only do not cause crime to increase, they may deter violent crimes. It is also firmly established…
Existing law works to catch OH-NJ gun trafficker
by Chad D. Baus
Gun control advocates constantly claim that illegal gun trafficking is occurring because current laws are inadequate. They say very little, however, when a case occurs that proves existing laws can be used with great effect.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, a New Jersey man is to be sentenced to prison this week for his role in a gun-trafficking scheme that stretched from Columbus to the East Coast.
From the article:
Terrance Laboo, 40, of Woodlynne, admitted in a Camden, N.J., federal courtroom that he was the eastern endpoint in the trafficking case.
Prosecutors said that three Columbus men bought guns from legitimate shops in central Ohio and sold them to a middleman who sold them to Laboo.
“There’s money to be made selling guns to people who otherwise can’t get guns,” said David Coulson, a senior special agent with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Chicago. “There’s a market out there.”
The Columbus men — William E. Johnson II, Joseph L. Berry and Antonio R. Berry — await sentencing in U.S. District Court in Columbus.

Noise Suppressors: Advocates say they reduce hearing loss and increase accuracy
by Chad D. Baus
The Dayton Daily News is reporting on the fact that noise suppressors are one of the fastest-growing segments of the firearms market, and that registrations in Ohio skyrocketed last year, according to federal data and industry experts.
From the article:
Ohio saw the second largest increase in suppressor registrations in the nation, and experts said interest in the devices could blossom if state lawmakers decide to allow registered owners to use them for hunting.
Gun advocates said silencers reduce hearing problems related to loud gunfire and increase shooting accuracy. They said suppressors are safety devices but unfairly have received a bad reputation, because Hollywood movies primarily portray them as a criminal tool, used by assassins and Mafiosos.
“I believe the best reason to have them is for hearing protection,” said Ryan Carr, owner of Sunbury-based RC Firearms LLC, which sells the devices. “For this reason, hunting would be an excellent use of a silencer.”
According to the article, some gun control groups buy into the Hollywood myths about the devices, claiming silencers in general pose some public safety risks because they can allow violent criminals to shoot and kill people without creating loud noises that attract attention.
Portman Cosponsors Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) has signed on as an original cosponsor of the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014, legislation introduced by Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) which would allow individuals with concealed carry privileges in their home state to exercise those rights in any other state that also has concealed carry laws. The legislation is also cosponsored by U.S. Sens. Thune (R-SD), Vitter (R-LA), Graham (R-SC), Boozman (R-AR), Inhofe (R-OK), Crapo (R-ID), Burr (R-NC), Cochran (R-MS), Johanns (R-NE), Enzi (R-WY), Moran (R-KS), and Roberts (R-KS).
“I am a firm believer in the Second Amendment and remain committed to protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners. This bill will allow the nearly 250,000 Ohioans with concealed carry privileges to exercise that privilege in other states that allow concealed carry.”
The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014 would treat state-issued concealed-carry permits like drivers’ licenses, allowing law-abiding citizens with concealed carry privileges to concealed-carry in any other states that also permit it by law.
Following is the post Sen. Portman shared about this news on his Facebook page.

Op-Ed: ObamaCares … To Know About Your Guns
by C. D. Michel
Soon, you might become a federally registered gun owner when you visit your doctor. Given Obama’s antagonism to gun rights and his overtly statist nature, it isn’t a matter of if this will come to pass, but when.
Obamacare, a hideous and dysfunctional monster even when it (rarely) works, is a machine inherently designed to violate personal privacy. Part of this massive scheme requires doctors and hospitals to comply with keeping federal electronic health records. Stories are already erupting that the government may want details about your personal habits, including your sex life, for purposes poorly documented. Aside from what you, your spouse, and your twenty closest friends may do on a Friday night, the feds will want details about your carbohydrate consumption, exercise, stress levels and what flavor vodka you pour on your breakfast cereal.
Inevitably, they will eventually ask if you own guns … and how many … and where do you keep them.
Defending Children: Teachers should explore options for effective resistance with the tools available
by Jeff Knox
As the new year dawns, just over a year after the atrocity at Sandy Hook, it’s time to look at what’s been done since that horror to add to the protection and defense of our children.
First, it’s important to recognize the fact that mass murder attacks on school children are extremely uncommon, and the odds of your or my children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews being directly involved are incredible small – probably in the neighborhood of 1 in 100 million in any given year – so you’re more likely to win the PowerBall and MegaMillions lotteries – simultaneously – than to have a child involved in an attack like Sandy Hook or Columbine. Of course that’s no comfort when tragedy does strike, and it’s the possibility – regardless of how unlikely – which demands that steps be taken to reduce the odds even further.
It’s clear that institutional lethargy, myopia, and political correctness have schools and their administrators virtually incapable of change. In the wake of the worst school massacre in decades, the response of school administrators around the country was to double-down on the same emergency response strategy that failed at Sandy Hook; the Hide and Hope strategy.
Teachers are instructed to close their classroom doors, gather children in a corner, and hold them there until the “lockdown” ends. Unfortunately, that’s where the planning ends. There is rarely any planning for what exactly to do if the “bad guy” actually enters the room and starts hurting people.
Extreme gun makeover with Cerakote by EAC Concepts
by Clint Lake
Many moons ago, I gifted my brother with a blued, used, cop Sig Sauer P229. It had heavy holster wear on the slide and frame but was practically brand new on the inside. It quickly became his carry pistol, and he loved it so much he gave it a name, which I think my mom is going to use for her next cat. But I digress.
For his combo Xmas/Birthday (no I’m not a skinflint, but both fall so close together they might as well be the same event) I decided to makeover his P229 in Cerakote – slide in Shimmer Gold and frame in Titanium.
Off it went to Jerrod Yost at EAC Concepts. EAC is located in southern Mount Vernon, Ohio just 30 minutes northeast of Polaris and very easy to get to. I dropped the pistol off on a Tuesday and a week and a half later, it was ready to pick up.
Upon inspection, the pistol was transformed from a well-worn front line defensive tool to a downright hot piece of awesome! The pistol truly looks like one of a kind. Total cost of re-beautification hovered around $175. EAC doesn’t just do pistols. They can makeover AR/AKs, shotguns, bolt-actions, and even knives.
Because I liked Jerrod’s work so much, I decided to drop off my AK and G23 for a new, one-of-a-kind paint job. The G23 has the slide done in Patriot Brown and frame in Magpul Flat Dark Earth. The AK has a base color in the same Magpul Flat Dark Earth with a mesh-camo pattern of Magpul Olive Drab Green and Patriot Brown.
For you gear heads, I gave him a Krebs Custom Flash Hider, Krebs Custom Safety/Selector, a Midwest Industry railed fore grip, and a US Palm AK pistol grip. All this furniture was Cerakoted in my stated color and installed as part of the makeover.
EAC Concepts will be doing some pro-bono work on some of the firearms we will be auctioning off at our 2014 Buckeye Bash on April 5th. I hope to see you all there because the proceeds go towards our FASTER program that gets teachers active killer training to help them protect our kids.
Please support a local business that supports your Second Amendment rights in Ohio. You can get an idea of Cerakote color palettes by going to www.cerakoteguncoatings.com. Contact Info: Jared/EAC Concepts, 855-322-1215 or info@eacconcepts.com.
