Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation, in partnership with Safari Club International, filed a friend-of-the-court brief Jan. 14 in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in support of the First Amendment rights of the firearms industry, according to a Jan. 15 news release from Sportsmen’s Alliance.
Truck drivers sue to restore right to bear arms across state lines
On Jan. 7, two interstate commercial truck drivers filed a complaint in the Federal District Court for the District of Minnesota. The lawsuit contends Minnesota and, in particular, the commissioner for the Department of Public Safety, is infringing on the exercise of their Second Amendment rights by not recognizing their right to bear arms across state lines.
Fifth Circuit court reverses conviction over gun owner’s marijuana use
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit — which encompasses Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas — on Jan. 6 reversed the conviction of a man under a federal law that prohibits firearm possession by one who is “an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance{.]”

Governor signs 3 BFA-backed bills to provide civil immunity and prohibit firearms liability insurance, sales tracking, registries
Gov. DeWine has signed Senate Bill 58, which prohibits requiring firearm liability insurance or being required to pay a fee for the possession of a firearm, part of a firearm, its components, its ammunition, or a knife. Senate Bill 148, which was amended into SB 58, prohibits financial institutions from tracking firearms purchases and prohibits governments from maintaining a registry of firearms or firearm owners.
NC congressman introduces Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act
U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson (R-North Carolina) on Jan. 8 led more than 120 colleagues by introducing the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 38). H.R. 38 would allow people with state-issued concealed carry licenses or permits to conceal a handgun in any other state.
