Web-based hunter access program focused in Harrison, Jefferson, Tuscarawas and Carroll counties.
COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife has teamed up with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and the Quality Deer Management Association to announce the development of a Web-based deer hunter access program.
The Web site, www.huntohiofarms.com, will be available starting August 26 as part of a two-year pilot project to be focused in Harrison, Jefferson, Tuscarawas and Carroll counties. The program will then be evaluated to determine its acceptance within the hunting and farming communities. If successful, it would then be expanded to include the entire state.

Space, a 2008 Buckeye Firearms Association endorsee, has lived up to his promise to voters when it comes to support for gun rights. He introduced similar BATFE reform legislation immediately after getting elected in 2006, and in 2008 he joined a number of his colleagues in signing onto a National Rifle Association “friend of the court” brief urging the United States Supreme Court to recognize the rights of all Americans to own firearms in the D.C. v. Heller case.

One of the more frequent compaints from Ohio concealed handgun license (CHL) -holders is the number of “no-guns” signs posted in businesses. Although the number of signs has definitely decreased in the five years since the successful self-defense law was passed, far too many businesses – especially in urban areas – still post signs telling some of their customers that they are not welcome.
So it is a welcome change indeed when a business not only refuses to post the offensive and unsafe signs, but actually spends marketing dollars to encourage CHL-holders to shop at their store. And that is exactly what an automotive repair facility in northeast Ohio is doing!
Recently, a Buckeye Firearms Association supporter named Melissa contacted us. Rather than the all-too frequent complaint about a “no-guns” sign, Melissa wanted to tell us about a positive promotion being run by Calanni’s Auto Service of Lakewood, Ohio.

On July 22, 2009, Senator George Voinovich (R-Ohio) voted against a national reciprocity amendment that would have allowed persons with a concealed handgun license to carry their guns in most other states (Amendment 1618 to S1390). Later, in trying to explain his vote, Voinovich told told editors at the Columbus Dispatch that the Republican party’s biggest problem is that Ohioans just can’t relate to pro-gun Republicans from the South.
And now, one month later, via a letter of response to angry constituents, Voinovich is trying to explain that he is really their friend. If you believe that, he probably has some great swampland in Florida to sell you too.

A recent story on ABC News proves, once again, that the establishment media takes a one-sided view of the gun issue. The story, which can be viewed here, covers a new law in Tennessee that allows people to carry guns in restaurants and bars – and is clearly slanted against gun owners.
In the report, the mainstream media trots out one of their favorite foils, a gun owner who is against concealed carry. In this case, the purported gun owner claims to believe in the right to bear arms, but also says guns should be kept at home.
We never know if the person interviewed as a “reasonable” gun owner is really unbiased, and rarely hear from people who aren’t gun owners, but believe that others should have the right to carry a gun.
The gun owner in question allows another of the anti-gun reporter’s favorite tricks when he sneaks in a line about vigilantes, or Dirty Harry wanna-be cops running around with a gun only to impress their girlfriend. Despite the reports claim that bar fights will now turn into gun fights not a single case where it happened was referenced, even though the anchorman admits that over 40 states already allow guns in bars.
Sportsmen Need to “Man the Battle Stations” and Block the “Czar”

Battle lines between sportsmen and anti-hunting extremists seem to be hardening with each passing day. Frighteningly, it looks to get worse as a major anti-hunter is on the verge of setting up residence in a federal office with the power to block pro-sportsmen regulations for years to come.
Cass R. Sunstein may not be a household name, but make no mistake, in academic and legal circles he is a rock star. His nomination by President Obama to serve as the head of the powerful Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), otherwise known as the “Regulatory Czar”, appears on track and has received a lot of accolades from those who make a living inside “the Beltway” of Washington, D.C.
Unfortunately, Sunstein’s record outs him as a rabid animal rightist who has gone so far as to state that animals may deserve the right to sue and, for sportsmen, most chillingly, that “we might ban hunting altogether, at least if it’s sole purpose is human recreation.”
