Are You a Fair Weather Friend of Second Amendment Groups?
by Dean Rieck
Suppose you had a dear friend. Someone you’ve known for years and who has stood beside you every step of the way.
Then one day, you say or do something this friend doesn’t agree with. It’s not a personal insult. You haven’t cheated them or assaulted them. You just have an honest disagreement about something.
Suddenly your friend tells you it’s all over. They won’t be your friend anymore. They don’t want to hear from you or support you ever again. And they start talking to others about this, encouraging them to abandon you too. They insult you, call you names, start working against you.
What kind of friend is this? Were they ever your friend to begin with? What sort of mature person acts like this?
In the world of gun rights, this sort of thing happens all the time. When you run a pro-gun organization like the NRA or Buckeye Firearms Association or USCCA or any group that speaks out and takes action, you’re bound to encounter this situation.
People support you. Then they throw a tantrum and start working against you. You hear it all the time on forums where people curse an organization, withdraw their support, and encourage others to do the same because of one disagreement about something the organization has done.
Why does this happen? Why are people so quick to abandon or even sabotage organizations whose employees and volunteers spend their lives working to protect our rights?

Bill: Protecting the right to bear arms on Federal lands administered by the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Mgmt.
by Larry S. Moore
Recently H. R. 5523 was introduced into the U. S. House of Representatives by Congressman Denny Rehberg (R-MT) along with co-sponsors Rep. Bob Bishop (R-UT) and Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA). The purpose of the bill is “To protect the right of individuals to bear arms on Federal lands administered by the United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management.”. The bill currently has 21 co-sponsors, as reported on govtrack.us (1-5523). Disappointingly, none of the co-sponsors are from Ohio.
This bill is of critical importance as Second Amendment advocates continue to press forward with the expansion and protection of our right to carry in national parks. Additionally the right to hunt on federal lands, whether operated by the National Parks Service, the National Wildlife Refuge system, the Forest Service or the Bureau of Land Management, is also under attack any time firearms (or lead bullets) are banned.
This bill is critical to Ohioans because the Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio is under the control of the Forest Service.

More Lead Ban Efforts Are an Assault on Our Second Amendment Rights and Freedom to Hunt
by Larry S. Moore
More efforts are being aimed at eliminating lead – or are they simply aimed at our enjoyment of the shooting sports, fishing and outdoor recreation? Is the motivation behind the latest effort a real safety and environmental concern or is it a back-door attempt to ban firearms from our national parks? We saw efforts to roll back the right to carry in our national parks based on lead concerns immediately after the law went into effect. I’m saying it is yet another attempt to limit our freedom and right to carry.
The extremist Center for Biological Diversity filed a petition with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency seeking to ban ammunition containing lead core components. A National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) alert states, “The National Shooting Sports Foundation encourages all gun owners, hunters and shooters to oppose the petition filed with the Environmental Protection Agency seeking to ban the use of traditional ammunition containing lead-core components. This ban would apply to ALL ammunition including ammunition used by target shooters.”
