TERMINATED: Canton police officer who threatened to execute concealed carry licensee is finally off the payroll

The Canton Repository is reporting that notorious Canton Police Officer Daniel Harless, who was caught on his own police dash cam video last June verbally assaulting a concealed carry license holder and threatening to “execute” him, has finally been fired.

Bill Adams, president of the Canton Police Patrolmen’s Association, the union that represents Patrolman Daniel Harless, confirmed that city Safety Director Thomas Ream ruled that Harless is no longer a member of the city’s police force.

Ream issued a three-page ruling dated Tuesday.

“It is quite clear that (Harless’) actions represented a pattern of behavior where inappropriate verbal abuse and threats of death or great bodily harm of the various complainants occurred,” Ream wrote.

“This escalating pattern of potentially dangerous behavior cannot be justified or excused and clearly illustrates the seriousness of the departmental infractions.”

Harless was accused of violating police department rules during the June 8 traffic stop during which police cruiser video shows Harless berating and threatening a man pulled over around 1:30 a.m. on Newton Avenue NW.

In the dash cam video, the officer can be heard unleashing a profanity-laced tirade, yelling, “I should blast you in the mouth right now…I’m so close to caving in your head,” and “you’re just a stupid human being!” He continued to berate the license-holder, shouting, “You want me to pull mine and stick it to your head?” “People like you don’t deserve to f#$%*@g move throughout public. Period!”

After the June cruiser video was posted on the Internet, it went viral. Soon, other videos turned up, revealing a long pattern of deplorable behavior.

The Repository uncovered a video from another incident, in which Harless threatened to send the suspects “to the grave” if they moved, adding, “I will shoot you in the face and I’ll go to sleep tonight.”

In a third dash cam video uncovered by Cleveland’s ABC affiliate, Harless can be heard engaging in yet another profanity-laced tirade, saying, “If you scratch your balls wrong, I’m going to pull my gun and I am going to shoot you.”

President Obama keeps pushing for gun control. “I just want you to know that we are working on [gun control]. We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar,” President Obama told Sarah Brady, the former president of the Brady Campaign, this past spring.

His push as been quiet but relentless.

Just this past week Obama signaled that he was going to just ignore two new parts of the 2012 Omnibus Spending bill. Although he signed the spending bill into law, he simultaneously issued a so-called “signing statement,” a note that presidents have started attaching to legislation stating how they interpret the law they are signing or whether they believe part of it is unconstitutional.

Obama’s statement claimed that Congress couldn’t put restrictions on how he wanted to spend to fund lobbying for gun control and the National Institute of Health studies of gun control.

But why should the federal government use taxpayer dollars to pay for lobbying?

Obama has had numerous false starts on gun control. Just in November, his administration moved to ban target practice on public lands, but the opposition was so swift and strong they immediately backtracked.

A couple of weeks ago the Obama administration suffered another embarrassment. It was discovered that the Obama administration oversaw the sale of guns to Mexican drug gangs in its Fast & Furious program to bolster statistics of guns crossing over to the border to these very drug gangs.

This scandal is quite incredible as the Obama administration ordered gun dealers to make sales to Mexican drug gangs against their wishes to help the administration’s push for more gun control. And this follows the revelation in July that the Obama administration had pushed federal agents involved in the Fast & Furious scandal to support gun control regulations during their congressional testimony.

It doesn’t help that the Obama administration started pushing these sales at the same time they wanted to bolster their case that America was supply illegal guns to Mexico backfired. All this undercut any justification for new regulations and destroyed any support that they might have had.

ABCNews.com is reporting that ahead of Saturday night’s ABC News-Yahoo-WMUR debate in New Hampshire, Republican presidential candidate and Texas Gov. Perry took a few moments to himself at an Austin-area shooting range.

Perry is the only Republican presidential candidate to have made his support for gun rights an integral part of his campaign.

“Just relaxing a bit @ Red’s Range before we leave for New Hampshire!” @governorperry tweeted Friday along with a photo of himself wearing a green sweatshirt and a baseball cap with a firearm in hand.

On the campaign trail, Perry, a staunch defender of second amendment rights, has not been shy about talking about his “long love affair” with guns.

“It was a long love affair with a boy and his gun that turned into a man and his gun, and it turned into a man and his son and his daughter and their guns,” Perry told reporters before a pheasant hunting trip with Iowa Rep. Steve King in October. “It’s, I think, one of the great American traditions is taking your family hunting.

And Perry often boasts about the time he allegedly shot a coyote who threatened his daughter’s dog while on a morning run.

“You know the second amendment allows me to go to jogging with my daughter’s dog over here and if it coyote comes out, I can take care of it,” Perry said at the Des Moines Register Soapbox at the Iowa State Fair in August.

In a 2010 KTRK interview during his gubernatorial race, Perry called the shooting range “my golf.”

On Friday, Perry showed up at Red’s Indoor Range, which according to its website, “has been in the shooting range and retail firearms business for over 20 years, proudly serving central Texas with two high-quality indoor shooting facilities as well as two retail locations with extensive inventories of firearms, ammunition, and accessories.”

84-year-old Cincinnati man uses gun to defend himself during home invasion

The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that an 84-year-old man shot and killed an intruder at his home Tuesday morning.

Officers discovered the body after they were summoned to the residence about 10 a.m. when the homeowner called 911, said Officer Kristy Collins, spokeswoman for Hamilton police.

Ed T. Stevens, 75, of Hamilton was found dead in the home’s basement. Police said Stevens forced his way into the house past Charles V. Foster. Once inside, Stevens assaulted Foster. who then shot Stevens to stop the assault, police said. Stevens’ family told police that Stevens has a history of suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Foster reported he had a dead man his basement, according to the incident’s call to authorities.

“I shot him,” Foster told a dispatcher.

Sgt. Michael Waldeck said there some of Stevens’ relatives lived on the street and the family thought Stevens might have gotten confused and went to the wrong house.

Police said no charges have been filed and authorities continue to investigate. Waldeck said Foster and Stevens did not know each other.

“It’s a tragic situation on both sides,” Waldeck is quoted as saying. “On the one hand, the dementia or Alzheimer’s (may have) played a part in this. … And then on the other side of this you got an elderly man that doesn’t know this guy comes into his house (and) starts assaulting him. And so he doesn’t know what else to do.”

The Canton Repository reported recently that notorious Canton Police Officer Daniel Harless, who was caught on his own police dash cam video verbally assaulting a concealed carry license holder, was a no-show at his latest disciplinary hearing. So, despite berating an honest citizen for lacking responsibility, when faced with taking responsibility for his own actions, Officer Harless chose to be cowardly and hide.

Officer Harless claims to be mentally disabled and unable to help with his own defense. Yet, the Canton Police Department deemed him well enough to testify at a recent murder trial. So, he either testified at a murder trial despite a serious mental issue, or he is exploiting the idea of being mentally ill for his own gain.

Neither option reflects well on Harless, or the people advising him.
