Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s “assault weapon” ban and confiscation (mandatory “buyback”) scheme was announced on May 1, 2020. True to form, some 1,500 days post-launch, three government ministers, two amnesty period extensions, and tens of millions of dollars later, it has become increasingly obvious how hopelessly bad the Liberal government’s misguided gun control scheme is, with a few fresh snags now evident.

President Joe Biden said it again. Given another term, he’ll do gun control. Compare that to the 1968 words of Ronald Reagan: “We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.”

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal from the Biden Justice Department that asks the high court to lift a stay on an ATF rule supposedly meant to crack down on “ghost guns.” But the bigger, and oft-ignored, issue in the case is ATF’s attempt to massively expand its authority by reinterpreting the meaning of “firearm” itself.
